18 Veterans Arrested in Antiwar Protest - CommonDreams.org
Very few things bother me worse than hypocrisy. The fact that those guys were arrested for what they did shows just how far we are from our own standards. "We're here to celebrate veterans, but arrest those veterans over there exercising their constitutional rights!" Don't get me wrong. I'm not guilty of hero worship here. I don't think anybody has actually died in a war that was a threat to our "freedom" since WW2. Since then it was the US sticking our nose in where it didn't belong and playing world-police-man. I just think that arresting veterans (exercising their free speech) at a Veteran's Day gathering is just wrong. Oh, the reason I put freedom in quotes above is that freedom is our natural state. Unless your stupid ass is being held somewhere by threat of death if you try to escape, then if you don't like the rights you have, then MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE! This is a big planet! Trust me, if it gets any worse here, I'm moving to Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, or England(England's not much better than we are these days, though). I hate it when people talk so much about how "Freedom isn't free." BULLSHIT! Don't like where you are? Then MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! You are as free as you allow yourself to be. Sure, if you move to a different country you might have to learn another language, get a work permit, and be broke until you can get settled. But you can still go where you want. You are always free to do that. Hell, worst case is you have to take a ship to pacific island where the population is less than 500. Now THAT is truly free. I don't want to go to that extreme, but I'm saying, you always have that option if you feel you can't be free elsewhere ^_^
